The president of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko congratulated the Ukrainians with New year! Here is the text:

“Dear Ukrainian nation!

I heartily congratulate every citizen of Ukraine with New 2008year!
The previous year was not easy and very imbued with both absolute achievements and lessons which must be learned. Ukraine passed the democratic test with dignity. For us tragic history is in the past for the sake of the light and glad future.
I am convinced that with a new parliament and new government we have all for that a next year brought successes and achievements in all spheres.

The tasks which stand before our state need agreement, harmony and trust of the society. We are different, but we are united by Ukraine.

Let the next year be filled with political stability, economic progress and considerable advancement on the way to our returning to Europe.
I wish each of us optimism, faith in own power and in Ukraine, strong health and family comfort.

I wish you holiday mood, and happiness and gladness!”
